UC Davis takes down Riverside, falls to No. 24 Irvine

UC Davis entered the weekend with a perfect 2-0 mark in Big West Conference play this season. The Aggies put that record on the line first on Friday night at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside, Calif., and then at No. 24 UC Irvine on Saturday night.

Davis’ only brewery, Sudwerk, located on Second Street at Pole Line, recently won a gold medal at the California state fair for their pilsner.

Low carbon diet challenge reduces carbon emissions

On Oct. 12, a month-long community effort to cut back on carbon emissions will kick off in Davis. “Davis Low Carbon Diet Challenge” will include eco-teams consisting of friends, family and co-workers whose goal is to lose 5,000 pounds of carbon by making more environmentally friendly decisions in their day-to-day lives.

Law School expands loan repayment assistance program

While it might be standard for graduating law students to struggle with a large amount of student debt, those pursuing law related work in the lower paying public interest fields won’t have to face the daunting task of loan repayments. Instead, UC Davis’ newly expanded Loan Repayment Assistance Program, LRAP, has offered to shoulder the fees, starting Jan. 1.

Hyper-partisanship bringing down Sacramento, columnist says

CVPP director responsible for three years of inflated assault statistics

Many UC Davis students are aware that their campus ranks highest among all UCs in terms of sexual assaults committed on and around campus.The numbers were surprising for a fairly small college town where most people feel safe leaving their doors unlocked.But in2007,69sexual assaults were reported,more than the amount at every other UC combined. At a press conference last Thursday,UC Davis officials announced that the data for sexual assaults in2007had been significantly inflated.The numbers are part of the Clery report,which is a federally mandated report of crimes that occur on and around a college’s campus.

The ball is served. The other team’s defensive player passes it to the setter. The setter pushes the ball outside. The hitter spikes the ball as hard as she can. Then Avreeta Singh flies out of nowhere to dig the ball up and keep the rally alive for her side. This has been a regularly occurring scene – 1,654 times, to be exact – at UC Davis women’s volleyball matches over the past four years.

Aggies strong effort comes up short

Before UC Davis’ contest with No. 5 Boise State, coach Bob Biggs called the Broncos the best team that the Aggies have ever faced. Saturday night was a different story, as UC Davis gave Boise State all it could handle before the Broncos finally pulled away late in the fourth quarter for a 34-16 win.
