Women’s field hockey year in review

Two weekends ago, the women’s field hockey team ended their tumultuous season on a strong note with a satisfying 5-2 victory over Pacific. The team’s performance was a showcase of all of the hard work, time and heart they have put into each and every single one of their games, at home and on the road. The Aggies end their season with a 8-12 overall record and 3-3 conference record. Their eight wins are the most for the program in four years while their second-place finish in the NorPac West Division was another team-best. Against Pacific, five different players scored — with four goals in the first half as the women sealed their final victory in Northwood, Va. Senior Emily Mecke, junior Maggie Barry, junior Cloey LemMon, and freshman Jamie Garcia all scored in the first half to build a comfortable lead for the team. Senior Nadia Namdari ended the second half on a pleasant note with a goal to put the Aggies up 5-2. Overall, six seniors played a... ...

Aggie Digest

UC Davis field hockey hosted Stanford this weekend at Aggie Stadium, but couldn’t pull out the victory under the lights. The Aggies dropped a 4-2 decision to the Cardinal on Saturday in a tight NorPac Conference West Division matchup. Freshman Jamie Garcia led the offensive attack for the Aggies with six shots, one of which found the net, to go along with an assist. Stanford scored the first two goals, one each in the third and 33rd minute, before UC Davis got on the board with Garcia’s assist to senior Nadia Namdari in the 38th minute of play. The Aggies fell behind 3-1 in the 54th minute, but Garcia’s goal in the 56th minute kept the game close. UC Davis continued to threaten, but the Cardinal scored a goal in the 66th minute to put the game out of reach for the Aggies. This was the second time UC Davis fell to Stanford this season, but this time around it was a much more even match-up. Back on Oct. 5,... ...

Aggie Digest

The UC Davis field hockey team, after an impressive victory over California last week, couldn’t carry the momentum over to Stanford this past weekend and dropped a 5-0 decision to the Cardinal. In a NorPac conference matchup, the Aggies brought a three-game winning streak down to the away game but were unable to get the road win. The Aggies are 2-7 in games away from Aggies Stadium, but are 4-0 at home for an overall record of 6-7. The Aggies have had quite a streaky season with a lot of ups and downs. They started off the year with three wins in a three-game home stand. They then dropped six straight games in a tough stretch of away games. UC Davis took the ensuing three games, including its upset over Cal, to even its record at 6-6. The Aggies played a strong second half against Stanford but had already fallen behind 4-0 after the first, too big a deficit for UC Davis to overcome. The Aggies will return to action... ...

Aggie Digest

The UC Davis field hockey team has had a considerable amount of competition thus far and are in the middle of their NorPac Conference competition. The Aggies are currently 6-6 overall and 2-0 in conference. They hold a perfect 4-0 record at Aggie Stadium. After winning their first three games, they dropped the next six before finding form again. UC Davis has won three in a row, including NorPac victories over Pacific and, most recently, California. The 3-1 win over the Bears was the first Aggie victory over Cal since field hockey was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2009. Sophomore Sophia Lisaius found the goal in the 20th minute before freshman Jamie Garcia scored eight minutes later for the Aggies to give them a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Aggies stretched their lead to 3-0, which proved to be more than the Bears could handle. The upset follows an epic 4-3 win over Pacific in overtime. UC Davis has been gaining momentum these past couple weeks and will face... ...
